If you suffer from back pain continuously, or even if you don’t, you must know some facts that will help you naturally alleviate this excruciating pain, or keep it away for good.  Back pain can literally disable you to act, to live your life as fully and actively as you wish, thus, pay attention to your body and learn how to care for it to avoid chronic back pain.

1.    Fish oil helps lubricate your joints and decreases your chances of feeling back pain.  Include average amounts of fish oil into your diet, especially if you suffer from chronic back pain.

2.    Massages should not be seen as a luxury anymore.  Massage therapies are vital to enhance your body’s circulation, muscle toning and relaxation, thus, strengthening it.  It is recommended that you get regular massages, more so if you suffer from back pain.  These will help you alleviate the pain gently and eventually will keep it away by maintaining relaxed muscles and better spinal alignment.

3.    Acupuncture works magic to alleviate back pain.  It is a Chinese alternative remedy that works with energy points in the body to balance and enhance its functioning.

4.    Regular exercise is crucial for your body’s wellbeing.  The more flexible and strong you are, the less risk of back pain or injury you will experience.  Perform all exercises under a professional’s supervision to avoid movements that may cause you harm, but remember that when you exercise, your body releases nutrients that feed your spine, bones and muscles, so, find one that suits your lifestyle and make it a routine.

5.    Self-medication is never recommended as you can develop an addiction to painkillers without even noticing it.  If you need something fast, it is better to go for the topical treatments such as ice and stay away from pills until you talk to a doctor.

6.    Your mattress matters.  Get one that helps you support your back and body structure so that your whole body can rest appropriately.

The very best treatment for back pain is always an individual matter because we are all so different. Make sure your doctor is open-minded and that you emphasize your preference for natural methods rather than invasive ones. If you do seek a more holistic approach, and live in the Ottawa area, consult with an Ottawa chiropractor who specializes in such treatments.

In short, your wellbeing is a matter of balance in every area of your life; achieving this balance will ensure you live a full happy life, free of pain and aches.

The aim of a holistic health counselor is to focus on the body and mind, the emotional and spiritual wellness of a patient, and not so much on the disease itself.  “Holistic” is derived from the Greek word “holos” which accurately means “whole”.  The difference between what a holistic health practitioner and a traditional health practitioner does is easy to explain.  Traditional health practitioners focus on treating the symptoms of a disease, whereas a holistic health counselor focuses on prevention, and getting to the root of the illness.  The traditional doctor treats sections of the body, whereas the holistic doctor treats the person as a whole, as with nutrition, and treating mental and emotional health.

A holistic health counselor uses non-invasive healing methods that help the patient reach a state of balance and wellness.  The holistic health doctor will use no drugs, or traditional medicine, but will seek alternative and natural methods of treatment instead.  Some of the many methods of treatment that a holistic health care professional may use are natural treatments such as acupuncture, homeopathy, energy medicine, meditation, sauna therapy, Chinese herbal medicine and many other effective natural treatments.  A holistic doctor may use other methods like ancient wisdom principles, the power of intention, quantum physics, even brain reprogramming to bring you back to optimum health.

A holistic health practitioner understands that every body has an innate capacity and capability to heal itself, given the proper tools and guidance.  When holistic medicine is used in conjunction with conventional medicine, it can be a very powerful recipe to wellness and great health.  A holistic practitioner uses natural medicine therapy to balance the body, mind, and spirit by integrating methods of treatment taking a holistic approach.  Holistic health emphasizes prevention, total body awareness, health maintenance and longevity.

A holistic health counselor becomes much more than just a health consultant to the patient, not only treating symptoms but treating the lifestyle of the patient.  They will address problems in the client’s family, job, mental and spiritual health needs.  The practitioner sees the client as an integral part of their own healing process and encourages full responsibility in the patient to be an active participant in their own healing process.  If you live in the Ottawa area it would be a great idea to consult with an Ottawa wellness doctor that can guide you on the way to holistic health.  Treating the entire body, mind and soul, may be exactly what you have been missing in your health regimen.

As we approach middle age, many of us start to focus on our health more than we did in our youth.  It becomes important to stay fit and healthy, and increase the chances that we will be active enough to play with our grandchildren – and be around long enough to enjoy them in our golden years.

Many studies have been done on longevity.  Unfortunately, we have no control over one key element which is heredity.  There is a lot to be said for having good genes! However, there are a lot of factors that ARE under our control – and simple lifestyle changes can have a large impact on our lifespan, and our genes.

Cardiovascular health is of utmost importance as we age.  It is critical to maintain a healthy diet by restricting fried foods, animal fats, and prepackaged foods laden with nasty chemicals and preservatives.  Eating more fruits and vegetables and omega-3 laden fishes is an easy way to improve our health.

Exercise is often neglected in our busy schedules. Taking a daily walk or joining a gym is a great way to get the 20 minutes of aerobic exercise per day that doctors recommend.   This keeps both our bodies and minds healthy, and increases blood flow to our hearts and major organs.

Proper stress management is another way of increasing health.  If you are a type A personality that tends to anger easily, learn to take deep breaths and let it go!  Tai Chi or yoga is wonderful for managing stress, as is meditation and simply listening to good music.

It has been proven that people who have strong connections to others live longer.  Take time for your friends and family, and you will find that you are happier and more fulfilled.  If you have few friends and no family nearby, consider getting a pet.  Pet owners are known to be more mentally fit than non pet owners, and walking a dog is a great way of getting your daily exercise.

Eliminating negative health habits such as overeating, drinking too much, and smoking are critical to longevity.   Our bodies let us get away with these sins in our youth, but as we age, they take their toll on us quickly!  If you need help getting rid of addictions, consider hypnosis or a class.  Many health organizations offer free classes – and many employers offer free programs for their employees for smoking cessation as well as other addictions.

Don’t forget that any Vancouver, Montreal, or Ontario chiropractor has the skills and expertise to treat those chronic symptoms that might plague you through holistic and natural methods, guaranteed to improve your quality of life.

Health and well-being are forefront in the minds of many these days, and one way that some are improving their health is through taking supplements of colloidal minerals.

Our soils used to be rich with minerals of all kinds.  Heavy farming and overuse of our soils has left them depleted – meaning we no longer get the minerals our bodies need in our daily diet. Our bodies need at least 60 different minerals for optimal health; however, most commercially grown foods only have about 8.   Some 45 different minerals are added to dog and livestock food, but not to people food!  Our animals are treated better than we are.

According to Dr. William A. Albrecht, Chairman of the Department of Soils at the University of Missouri;

“A declining soil fertility, due to a lack of organic material, major elements, and trace minerals, is responsible for poor crops and in turn for pathological conditions in animals fed deficient foods from such soils, and that mankind is no exception.”

One way of addressing this deficiency is by growing organic fruits and vegetables and supplementing the actual soil with minerals – however, many of us have neither the time or space to do this. Most commercially available fertilizers for our gardens contain only 8 minerals, so finding the right preparations to do this is also difficult.

Luckily, most health food stores and natural medicine shops offer reasonably priced colloidal minerals for supplementation.   In chemical terms, colloidal refers to any ground up material in a suspension; in the case of minerals, this means the minerals are suspended in a liquid in such a manner to make absorption easier.

It is important to purchase your supplement from a reputable vendor, and it should be PLANT DERIVED colloidal minerals as this mimics what your body is used to processing.  Some unscrupulous companies have been caught simply grinding up rocks and putting them in colloidal suspension – then selling them to unsuspecting consumers.  This will not be absorbed properly by your body.

Some signs of mineral deficiencies include acne, diabetes, digestive problems, osteoporosis, depression, cramps, heart disease and cardiovascular problems, cancer, and liver dysfunction.

Any Ontario wellness specialist or naturalist will agree that, all of us will live longer with proper mineral supplementation.  All we need is a small amount of colloidally suspended minerals each day to address this problem, which is hassle-free and relatively inexpensive.

Most people know how hard it is to lose weight, but the truth is that it is harder to keep the weight off once you have lost it.  It has been proven that many people try more than one diet per year.  While they are on it, they follow a strict eating plan that truly helps them lose some weight in a short period of time, however, once the diet is over and they can go back to eating “normally”, they gain all the weight back, and even more of it.

Several research studies have shown that fat cells, when deprived of food, grow faster because they react by grasping to the fat once you start the diet, and as soon as you finish it, the fat growth speeds up, as a result.  These diets interfere with your metabolism because your body is being starved of nutrients, so it shuts off its ability to burn calories, making it more difficult, within time, to get rid of the excess weight.

This makes it very clear; diets do not work.  So, if you are overweight and need to lose several pounds to feel your best, what can you do, if not start a diet?  Are you willing to give up on yourself just because you have tried every diet out there and nothing works?  Simply put, NEVER.

Permanent weight loss is possible; nevertheless, it must be approached from a very different mindset.  If your desire is to lose that excess weight for good, take your attention away from dieting and concentrate your efforts on moving into a healthy and fit lifestyle, one that will get rid of not only that digestive problem, but also the joint pain, the difficulty breathing, and even sleeping.  As soon as you begin, you will start living the benefits a healthy lifestyle provides, and to help you get started, here are some easy to follow tips:

1.    Begin eating smaller meals throughout the day.  In this way, you will not be deprived, will always feel full, and you will encourage your metabolism to work at full speed.

2.    Stop thinking about dieting and start thinking about eating healthy.  Prefer whole grains, low-fat milk, fresh fruits and lots of vegetables.  Limit your caffeine and sugar intake as much as possible, and stop smoking, if you do.

3.    Get into daily exercise.  Start slow, with activities that you enjoy, and at least three times a week.  Remember that rest is also important, but try to bump your routine up as your resistance improves.

4.    Stay motivated.  This is a conscious activity.  Motivation does not come automatically, it must be practiced and encouraged every day, until it becomes a habit.  Find an exercise partner; establish accomplishable goals and reward yourself as you meet them.  Feel good by knowing that you are doing something awesome for yourself.

Remember that it is also important to consult your physician when experiencing symptoms that have become chronic, like fatigue or pain. There is an excellent Ottawa wellness center that treats such symptoms through holistic methods.

Many of us suffer from back pain and serious health problems associated with back pain, compounded over many years, while others may only deal with limited back pain, with the occasional flair up or strain.  Many people still have prolonged back pain, no matter what they seem to do about it.  They buy back pillows, ergonomic chairs, change their posture, get massages, even take up yoga, but they still are confronted with back pain.  If you are one of these people, then you are not alone, as the true cure for back pain might be finally within our grasp.

Doctors and chiropractors for years have tried to come up with treatments, and cures for back pain, but have had varied success.  It has only been recently, in the latter part of the 20th century, that people started to take more of an interest in holistic medicine to treat their everyday symptoms.  This basic premise has led many practitioners to pursue holistic treatment options for patients, especially for back pain, to find a more complete method of treatment.  Through these grueling years of study, observation, and trial and error, they have developed a comprehensive treatment for back pain, called Visceral Manipulation Therapy.

Visceral Manipulation Therapy is based on the notion that our organs have inherent movement patterns, basically speaking, that they are not frozen in place.  Their theory is, that not only do our organs need the ability to move, but need to be able to glide, slide, rotate or compress, when we are physically moving our bodies or when they’re standing still.  When one of our organs becomes either displaced or compressed by one of its neighbors, it can create abnormal scar tissue if it does not function properly, which can result in chronic irritation or pain.

But only in recent years, scientists have proved that organs do have inherent moving patterns, and are connected with ligaments and fascia, which hold our entire bodies together.  Visceral Manipulation Therapy allows the restrictions in your body to become free, and with proper treatment in time, it can relieve back pain almost permanently.  It will also return the correct mobility patterns to your internal organs, thus enhancing fluid and chemical shifts that may be needed for healing and repair, while improving joint pain as well.

Visceral Manipulation can be a great option of back care if you are seeking an alternative, holistic method of treatment.  Remember that traditional medicine only treats the symptoms of the problem, whereas holistic medicine goes after the root of the problem, and takes into account the entire health of the body.   By treating conditions holistically, you may have better success, and overall increased health at the same time.  Before starting any alternative treatment make sure you contact an Ontario Chiropractor, or a doctor in your area for more information.

Most people often consider sweating to be quite undesirable, but experts feel differently.  Sweating under the proper circumstances can be very beneficial, and can even play a huge role in keeping the body healthy.  When your body sweats, it regulates its own core temperature, and rids itself of waste material and unhealthy toxins.  Far Infrared Saunas are ideal for this detoxification process as they help to purify the body of its stored toxins.

Our skin is an organ, and just like any other organ in our body, it needs to be able to get rid of waste material.  However, skin tends to not be as active as other eliminative organs in the body such as the kidney, or the liver, and needs assistance in riding itself from these toxins.  This is why an Infrared Sauna can be so valuable to the health of the body.  Most of the toxic cells and viruses in the body are normally weaker than your normal active cells, which means they have a very little tolerance for heat.  While the Infrared Sauna begins to heat up the tissues in the body, the body naturally fights disease faster and helps speed up the recovery time from infections.

Far-Infrared waves provide concentrated radiant energy, similar to the energy of the sun, which can increase blood flow, and heat internal muscles and tissues.  This assists the reduction of swelling and inflammation in your body by improving lymph flow, while also reducing soreness.  The Infrared Sauna also works with the body to flush out dangerous toxins and metals that may have built up over time.  Dangerous metals such as mercury, lead, and aluminum are often found in our bodies at dangerous amounts, even though we are completely unaware of this.  The Infrared Sauna can also sweat out dangerous chemicals and pesticides that might be in the body, as well as alcohol and even cholesterol.

Infrared Saunas can also be an excellent primary or secondary treatment option for many health problems.  Getting regular Infrared Sauna treatments can help reduce chronic fatigue, chronic back pain, improve digestive health, and strengthen the overall immune system.  It can also improve your lymphatic flow, increase blood and oxygen circulation, and provide pain relief from chronic problems like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and joint stiffness.  Not only will the infrared beams be busy killing organisms like bacteria and parasites in your body, but they will improve your skin and speed up your metabolism as well.  There is an Ottawa chiropractor that offers Infrared Sauna treatments, which may be a great option to someone who is looking to improve their health, and obtain pain relief all in the same process.

Happiness is easily achieved once you find the right balance between your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional selves.  As Thomas Merton said: “Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony”.  Nevertheless, intensity should never be underestimated, as it may be of help from time to time.

For some, achieving balance in their lives may seem a bit difficult, especially if they are very busy individuals with little or no time for themselves… or so they think.  What these people need to understand is that by giving priority to their wellbeing they are contributing greatly to the world around them, as a balanced world is formed by balanced individuals, and only then, can true happiness be experienced.  Good always starts with oneself; be good to yourself and this good will be passed along to others, eventually healing the world.

If you or someone you love are having trouble balancing every aspect of life, follow or show them these important tips, and discover how easy it is to start enjoying a good life today.

To achieve physical balance:

1.    Exercise regularly.  There are many modalities of exercise to fit almost any need or preference.  Choose one that inspires you and stick to it, find ways to enhance it, and show your body how much you care. Keep it aligned and visit an Ontario wellness center regularly.

2.    Get a good night’s sleep.  A healthy individual sleeps at least eight hours per night.

3.    Eat healthy and balanced foods.  Combine what you eat with the type of exercise you are doing; eat more natural foods and fewer packed products, increase the consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and water.

4.    Take time to relax and think positive thoughts.  Enjoy the time you spend doing “nothing”, just thinking about what your day was like, what you loved about it and what you didn’t enjoy.

5.    Get a hobby and spend time at it.  It is great when we take time to do what we love.

6.    Smile all the time.  No matter what the situation, there’s always a chance to smile; it just depends on how you decide to view things.

To achieve mental balance:

1.    Plan your day through goals, but learn to be flexible and realistic.

2.    Write everything in a positive way; keep negatives away.  “I am happy” works much better than “I am not sad”.

3.    Release yourself from obsessions, as you are not balanced when you are dependent on something to be happy.  Happiness comes from inside, and a truly happy person is happy in any circumstance.

4.    Go out and act in order to develop your talents.  Trial and error is the easiest, most fun way to learn.

5.    Keep a journal and write about everything you care about.

6.    Read quality material; it could be poetry, about nature or even news, just make it worthwhile.

7.    Define achievable goals; otherwise, you will never believe you can do it.  It doesn’t matter if you start small, to start is what’s important, and to start building trust in yourself to go higher every day.

To achieve spiritual balance:

1.    Discover your kind of prayer.  It could be through yoga, dancing, or the common praying at church, just make sure you connect with it, understand it and live it.

2.    Live in the now, it is the only place where your actions will be fruitful.

3.    Spend time with nature.  Take daily walks or weekend trips, but make sure you connect with the greatness of nature.

4.    If you are religious, study the Bible, Koran, or any text that confirms your beliefs; the same if you are a spiritual being, find what best suits your heart and learn from it.

To achieve emotional balance:

1.    Take care of others.  Be good and care for other people, no matter who they are.

2.    Be kind and helpful to others, and mind your own business.

3.    Listen to what others have to say.  They may not think like you, but there is value in everyone’s opinions.

4.    Find the common good in everything.  Always strive for the win-win result.  Remember that everyone deserves to win and that it is only when everyone wins, that real good is achieved.

If you suffer from insomnia or a milder sleeping problem, you are not alone.  There are millions of people experiencing difficulties falling and staying asleep.  Today’s stressful and hectic lifestyle, combined with declining eating habits and less relaxation time, are some of the biggest reasons why so many people are finding it hard to rest deeply at night.

However, there’s good news!  There are easy and natural ways to get rid of insomnia.  Follow these tips to create a healthy routine in your life that will ensure you enjoy countless nights of restful sleep.

1.    Make it a habit to drink a cup of chamomile tea before going to bed.  Chamomile is a mild and safe sedative that promotes restful sleep.  It has been used for many years as a remedy for stress, anxiety and insomnia.

2.    If you would like to vary chamomile from night to night, there are other herbs that help you achieve a good night’s sleep:  California poppy, passionflower and valerian are known for their calming effect before bedtime.  Another one you may want to research more about, if your insomnia is due to stress or anxiety, is kava kava.

3.    Your teatime is more effective if combined with a hot bath an hour before going to bed.  Make sure you enhance the water with some drops of soothing essential oils.  If a bath is not an option, apply lavender lotion to your body just before bedtime.  More and more, we are hearing about the relaxing effects of aromatherapy, especially English lavender, which is known to calm the mind and induce deeper sleep.

4.    Along with this delicious bath, take five milligrams of melatonin one hour before lying down to sleep.  It is one of the best remedies for insomnia, as it is the natural hormone produced by the pineal gland inside the brain that regulates the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.  As we get older, the production of melatonin in our bodies diminishes.

5.    Have a night snack composed of yogurt, a banana, a date or a fig.  These contain tryptophan, one of the best sleep promoters.

6.    Most importantly, plan your nighttime routine as you do your daytime one.  Take some time, at least an hour, to relax and calm down before sleep.  Get worries out of your mind; instead, think of a nice event and recreate it in your mind; or read an inspiring book.

7.    Make a monthly appointment with an Ottawa chiropractor to align your body, and learn to walk and sit in the proper way to help your body relax even while active and, in this way, reduce tension and stress during the day.

For those suffering from problems such as chronic pain along parts of the spine or nervous system disorders, life can pretty much be summarized as being, well, painful. Ordinary, everyday movements performed in normal routine activities become a real problem and quite literally for many “a pain in the neck”. The discomfort makes people uneasy and irritable which in turn can also cause other problems. This is a hard reality for many, but it doesn’t have to be. Chiropractors in Ontario wellness centers are available to put an end to the suffering and guide people back to health.  The question is how. The answer is spinal readjustment. So if you want to stop the pain and enjoy life again take a look at this:

Chiropractic therapy involves readjusting misaligned joints, called subluxations, in order to bring back joint mobility and effectively utilize pain management. An adjustment provides a powerful therapeutic force to combat primary, as well as secondary results. Subluxations tend to worsen with time. If spinal lesions are not treated, they tend to be harder to alleviate and tend to become increasingly more chronic. If left untreated, misaligned joints can cause increasing amounts of pain. Some studies have even shown that those who underwent chiropractic therapy experienced more long-term benefits compared to those who only underwent hospital treatment.

In addition to their hands, chiropractic practitioners may use other tools such as cold lasers, water, heat, or ultrasound to relieve pain. Some chiropractic practitioners may provide additional services such as acupuncture and dietary counseling among many things.

The benefits of chiropractic therapy are many. It can relieve arthritis, joint pain, spinal pressure, as well as decrease muscle stiffness. It can improve your overall physical well-being and can be used along with traditional forms of medicine. We should always keep in mind that care may vary depending on the need of the client, and the severity and frequency of the pain experienced.

Though immediate focus is pain and symptomatic relief, much of what a chiropractor does on a daily basis is, in fact, prevention. A secondary benefit is to prevent problems for the patient down the road. Very much like exercise and consuming vitamins are preventive in nature.

Are you ready to start feeling good again? Wellness solutions can provide everything you need to achieve this. After all, don’t we deserve the best?
