Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease, which affects the alimentary tract, anywhere from the mouth to the anus.  This inflammation can extend throughout all the layers of the stomach wall and can occur in patches, or in normal tissue.  The exact cause of Crohn’s disease is yet unknown, but many have recognized a link to stress and family history.  Crohn’s disease is a chronic disease for which there is no cure, but only treatments.

Diet is an important factor in Crohn’s disease and with the right food and supplements, your body can begin to heal itself naturally, causing your Crohn’s disease to go into remission for an extended period of time, sometimes even permanently.  In conjunction with natural treatments from your Ontario chiropractor, and the right diet, together with natural herbs and supplements, your body may be able to heal itself naturally from this chronic disease altogether.  Here are some natural treatments and supplements for the treatment of Crohn’s disease.

Herbal and homeopathic remedies can be effective in treating symptoms of Crohn’s disease and address the underlying causes of the illness, while aiming to restore the body’s natural healing properties.  They can help to restore harmony and equilibrium in the body, and provide a supportive platform to bring natural healing remedies into the affected body systems.  These remedies will be specifically tailored by your Ontario wellness physician, to meet your specific needs, and to address specific symptoms.

Some examples of these herbal remedies used in conjunction with treating Crohn’s disease include Filipendula ulmaria, Ulmus fulva, and Matricaria recutita just to name a few.  These herbs may be recommended alone, or in combination with another, depending on the individual’s specific health needs.  These herbs can help to strengthen the digestive health of the patient, as well as decrease inflammation in the bowel walls.  These herbs can be a natural option for the treatment of Crohn’s disease, without all the dangerous side effects associated with prescription drugs and steroids currently used for the treatment of this illness.

Another herbal treatment that has shown to have success in treating Crohn’s disease is green tea.  Green tea has been well known for thousands of years for its soothing qualities as well as its miraculous healing properties.  But only until recently, has green tea been used in the treatment of Crohn’s disease.  Green tea has natural anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce inflammation in Crohn’s patients, as well as reduce pain and provide temporary relief.  Green tea has also, in some cases, been found to ward off cancer with long term use, which can be a major concern down the line, with patients with Crohn’s disease.

Ginko biloba has also been seen to have positive effects in the treatment of Crohn’s disease, and other inflammatory-related illnesses like colitis, and IBS.  Ginko biloba is particularly effective in treating inflammatory diseases like Crohn’s because of it’s rich antioxidant properties.  These antioxidant properties help to clear out bacteria in the intestinal wall, reducing inflammation and pain associated with Crohn’s disease.  Consult your Ontario wellness physician for more information about herbal remedies and treatments available for Crohn’s disease.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition where you may feel chronic pain in different, specific areas of your body, such as the legs or your joints.  But fibromyalgia pain isn’t limited to only your legs or your joints; it can plague other areas of the body as well, such as the neck, shoulders and back.  These same people suffering from fibromyalgia may also suffer from secondary symptoms related to their constant fibromyalgia pain, such as depression, stress, irritable bowel syndrome, sleeplessness and nausea.  Fibromyaliga can be a chronic disease which may last for many years, and there currently is not one known cure for this condition.  But with the help of your Ontario wellness practitioner, a positive attitude, and the right information, you can start treating your fibromyalgia with herbal supplements and remedies today.

St. John’s Wort — St John’s Wort has shown to be successful in treating certain cases of fibromyalgia by reducing tenderness in the affected areas, improving immune system response, as well as reducing pain.  St. John’s works by helping you relax, while loosening tension in the major muscle groups.  St. John’s Wort can be used as a stress reducer and a pain reliever as well.

Siberian Ginseng – Siberian Ginseng can be a great herbal remedy for fibromyalgia and has been used in treating muscle pain for hundreds of years.  Siberian Ginseng has been known to be effective in reducing muscle inflammation, as well as increasing energy and mood in the fibromyalgia patient.  Dosage can be increased with time.

Garlic — Garlic has been known to be very successful in treating many of the symptoms of fibromylagia.  Garlic works the same as a natural antibiotic in the body, enhancing the immune system, and strengthening the body’s reaction to disease.  Garlic can also help to clear the pollutants in the body supply, improving blood circulation and improving muscle and brain function as well.

MSN — MSN is a natural compound that can already be found in the body that can do great things for fibromyalgia suffers.  Many times fibromyalgia sufferers have a deficiency of this natural occurring compound in their bodies, and they no longer can produce adequate amounts for the body to stay healthy.  Some symptoms of MSN deficiency in the body might include random muscle pain, muscle weakness, chronic fatigue.  MSN can be found in many fresh fruits and vegetables, and serves as a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reducer as well.

Yoga — Yoga can be an excellent practice for relieving stress, strengthening and stretching important muscle groups, and maintaining a better balance in life.  But yoga can also do wonders for people who may be suffering from fibromyalgia.  Yoga can help strengthen certain muscle groups affected by the fibromyalgia disease, as well as energize the body by improving circulation and reducing fatigue.  Patients practicing regular regimes of yoga are seen to suffer less pain, and have more improved movement than patients not practicing any form of yoga exercise.

In their search for more natural options to maintain health and treat disease, many people ask and research if regular chiropractic care has any meaningful benefits.  We have to say that, yes, it most definitely has, and we will explain why.

First, it is important to understand how you define prevention.  In the field of traditional medicine, prevention means detecting a serious disease early in its development, or employing toxic shots or medicine which present side effects that are much worse than the condition itself.

What traditional medicine hasn’t accounted for, and what most doctors and patients ignore, is that these methods only work when the illness is already present in the body.  Do you really think this is prevention?  Isn’t it obvious where the medical field’s main interest resides?  Yes, sadly, in your wallet.

Let’s just analyze one common procedure: mammograms.  It has been shown that 70% to 80% of the positive findings in a mammogram are proven negative by following biopsies, and around 25% of the real cancer cases are missed by mammograms.  Mammograms employ very high doses of ionizing radiation to create an x-ray image of the tissue in the breast.  This type of radiation is known to increase the activity of cancerous cells, and, in reality, can cause cancer to appear.

Just consider the proven fact that around 52% of women may have inactive cancerous cells in their breasts that may never become active; however, when exposed to high doses of radiation, this can change.  In other words, receiving regular mammograms may in reality increase many women’s chances of developing cancer.

A study performed not long ago showed that out of every 2000 women who received mammograms for more than 10 years, only one got a chance for a longer life, while 10 had to go through pointless and most likely harmful procedures.  The hidden truth behind these studies is how profitable these procedures are for the cancer industry.  In reality, mammograms are not wildly promoted because they detect cancer; these are forced on women because they mean big bucks.  And very sadly, this is what many think preventive medicine is all about.

Our health is always changing.  You can easily mark a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 is “almost dying” and 10 is “perfect health”, and on a daily basis, track where your status is.  You can also think what actions could increase the number and which ones will decrease it or maintain it.  The truth is that preventive medicine is anything that prevents or minimizes your moves towards the low numbers, while at the same time moves you up the scale.

In other words, the benefits must overpower the negatives, and these should be much better than doing nothing.  So, what would be the deeper functional benefits here?  Why keep getting regular chiropractic care if you feel and look like a million bucks?

Well, this regular practice basically helps you move towards the upper end of the scale every single day.  A chiropractic adjustment is much more than cracking your back; it enhances your nervous system’s ability to work at its best.  The nervous system controls and manages almost every body function, thus, it is essential for good health, just as much as good nutrition, exercise, and enough sleep are.  Whether a person is healthy or sick, chiropractic care will provide great benefits and almost no disadvantages.

Consider it this way:  if you give your car and teeth maintenance, why not give it to your body?  Remember that you can always get a new car, but you will never be able to get a new body if it fails.

Ask your Ottawa chiropractor about the many benefits that come with regular chiropractic care. You will be amazed and most certainly relieved to have found such a powerful health alternative.

More and more women are recognizing the value of chiropractic care as a part of prenatal care; however, the number of women who know about the benefits a chiropractor can provide for her and her new baby is still very low.

It is no secret that a woman’s body goes through a wide array of changes during pregnancy, and one of them happens directly as the baby grows inside of her.  When this happens, mom’s musculoskeletal system has to adjust to fit the growing uterus and get ready for delivery.  This is when chiropractic care comes in to save the day.  It helps the woman’s body stay aligned during the pregnancy process and keeps the nervous system working appropriately.

Most pregnant women experience lower back pain, hip pain, and pubic symphysis due to the stress the body is in because of the growth of the baby and the changes that happen in order to accommodate the new life.  As the belly grows, the woman’s gravity center moves and it is difficult for the lower back and pelvis to adjust to this change so quickly, causing stress and misalignments or subluxations, which produce pain and dysfunctions.  These conditions affect the uterus and the position of the baby inside the belly.

The uterus is connected to the pelvis by three types of ligaments:

-    The broad ligament
-    The uterosacral ligaments
-    The round ligaments

These ligaments’ function is to maintain the uterus at the proper place within the pelvis and to give support while the uterus grows to shelter the fetus.  If the pelvis is subluxated, the ligaments torque and directly affect the uterus’ position, causing the baby to shift from its optimal position into a breech or transverse baby.

The chiropractor’s mission is to correct any subluxations in the pelvis to balance the uterus and allow the baby to position itself correctly.  These adjustments are gentle, very specific, and completely safe.

Besides making life much more comfortable for the future mom, when the pelvis is aligned, the birth process is faster, safer, and easier.  One of the most common reasons for c-sections is a baby in breech or transverse position, and although these are done all the time, one must never forget that a c-section is a major surgery and encompasses all major surgery risks.  Women should try to give birth naturally, through the birth canal, in order to lower any type of risk, and to be able to be up and running as soon as possible to start taking good care of their precious new babies.

And to help Ontario women, there is an Ontario wellness solution in chiropractic care.  A professional chiropractor knows how special your body is and how much care you require during the normal periods of life, all the more during pregnancy.

Don’t let your pregnancy stop you from living your life. Stay active and happy while preparing for the arrival of your child so that you can give it all your love and attention without sacrificing your health.

When someone thinks of highly evolved lasers, most times they think of highly evolved military weapons of the future, to high tech computers, or maybe high tech satellites.  But with every passing year, as scientists learn more and more about what lasers are, and what they could potentially do, scientists and medical practitioners alike are starting to see the unlimited potential of lasers for treating modern health complications.  And one of these technological breakthroughs, utilizing laser technology, is a new method of treatment known as Cold Laser Therapy.

Cold Laser Therapy is a procedure where a soft laser device produces a red laser beam, which is used to heal the body, promote rapid pain reduction, as well as accelerate the healing time of cells.  Soft laser therapy can help in a variety of conditions, such as weight loss, chronic pain or injuries, to even a complete cessation of smoking.  Many others may use it for detoxification benefits, as well as organ balancing and lymph activation.  But how does Cold Laser Therapy work, and is it safe?

Cold lasers are 100% safe, compared to hot lasers, which can burn skin tissue.  Cold Laser therapy is used primarily in cell rejuvenation.  This is able to happen because different organs and tissues, in the body, resonate to different energy frequencies, due to their specific resonation level.  Unhealthy cells resonate at different levels, or frequencies, from normal, healthy cells.  Cold laser therapy works to bring cells back into restorative balance, by programming them back to appropriate frequencies of optimum health.  It is 100% safe and effective.

Cold Laser Therapy is used to treat a number of illnesses and health problems.  Some of these may be chronic, or acute pain reduction, including; chest pain, neck pain, joint pain, and even arthritis.  Patients suffering from Fibromyalgia have noticed significant improvement in pain reduction, as well as more flexibility and liberty of movement.  Cold Laser Therapy as also been used to treat allergies, brain and nerve disorders, sports injuries, even wound healing and other skin disorders.  Some have compared Cold Laser Therapy’s restorative and balancing effects, to acupuncture, without the needles.

Treatments can take place anywhere from hours to minutes, depending on the condition being treated, and its severity.  Treatments often come in the way of smaller dosages at multiple intervals, to one or two long treatments with higher dosages.  Each treatment will be decided, based on the condition.  A procedure done for the sake of wound healing, or acute tissue damage, may require multiple, short treatments, whereas other conditions may need longer exposure to the laser therapy.

Soft lasers are available as portable, handheld devices, usually administered in a medical practitioner’s office.  It is important that this procedure be done under close medical supervision, as only a trained professional will know the proper dosage times for each treatment option.  If you live in the Ontario area, make sure you contact an Ontario wellness physician as soon as possible, to learn more about this new and exciting treatment option.

Ahhh, blessed youth!  You are invincible, and so is your digestion.  No matter how spicy the food is, a young digestive system can cope with it all, or at least it could, until some years ago.  Today’s diet has proven lethal for digestive enzymes even in young people.  It’s incredible how things change…

After a certain age, or not so certain, eating something and having it turn into nutritious food takes a lot of work.  You see, digestive enzymes and bacteria in your gut convert food into necessary energy, and as a person gets older or more reckless, among other things, those enzymes decrease their production and the bacteria slows down its reproduction.  When this happens, digestive problems arise, and gas and bloating are the norm.  Eventually, the person starts showing signs of a lack of vitamins and even malnutrition.

But don’t despair!  There is a way to improve digestion at any stage in life.  In order to understand how, let’s take a look at what enzymes do:  When you eat, an enzyme, salivary amylase, starts entering the food as soon as saliva is produced and mixes with the food you are chewing.  These enzymes start to break down the food you’re savoring, but only if you are chewing. If you are drinking your meal (like in a protein drink or smoothie) you must take a second to chew it a little bit, or healthy digestion will not have even begun.

When the food arrives to the small intestine, the hormone secretin is produced, and it tells the pancreas to add the digestive enzymes trypsin, chymotrypsin, and pancreatin, as the food continues to move through your body.  Other parts of your system will add more enzymes, lactase and lipase.  When a person ages or eats a lot of junk, these enzymes decrease and your digestion pays for it.

To get digestive enzymes back, one option is to eat lots of raw vegetables and fruits, which contain natural enzymes for digestion; however this doesn’t work for everybody, as some people may not eat enough of these, or they lose their benefits during cooking.  Another important action is to take enzyme supplements, specifically natural plant enzymes like the ones used by this Ottawa wellness specialist, which have proven truly effective in restoring the digestive system’s functioning.

But let’s not forget about the bacteria.  In order to gain the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria back, the body needs probiotic supplements, which are available in many health food stores today.  However, in many cases, these are not truly effective due to their manufacturing process or time on the shelves, so, researchers are now investigating a new very promising probiotic called Saccharomyces boulardii.

To conclude, if you have digestive imbalances that are making your life miserable, taking natural digestive enzymes before eating and having probiotics as a dietary complement will certainly improve your digestion and, in addition, make you feel much younger… or your actual age!

The majority of us know about allergic reactions like runny noses, itchy and swollen eyes, sore throats, and feeling sad or moody, but possibly, you don’t know what allergies really are.

Allergies are actually an immune system reaction to certain plants, foods, or animals.  Our immune system is an intelligent structure that works very hard to keep us healthy.  Sometimes, it decodes an allergen as a harmful disease or virus, and as a means of defense, it initiates an attack in the form of different body reactions.  Allergies are simply the body’s way of showing us how much it cares for our wellbeing and how much it wants to protect us from external invasions.

The most common allergens are:

-    The tiny bugs found in dust: dust mites.

-    The protein found in the dander (dry skin), saliva, and urine, among others, of animals.

-    The pollen from grass, flowers and trees.

-    Those small living creatures that grow in damp places: mold and mildew.

-    Foods like milk, wheat, soy, eggs, nuts, seafood, strawberries, and legumes like peas, beans, and peanuts.

-    Latex, an elastic material used to make gloves and clothing.

Despite the immune system’s good intentions, allergies are very invasive and uncomfortable happenings that may even disable us to function during our daily activities, and in some cases turn out to be life threatening, with symptoms like rashes, vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome, and breathing problems.

Some people are born allergic, causing them to react negatively to the environment around them and creating chronic illnesses in them that truly affect their general health.  In some cases, allergies are hereditary.  This is why, it is important that allergic individuals know what exactly it is that they are allergic to, and for this, they have to consult with a doctor who specializes in allergies.  There are many tests that will tell exactly what substances react negatively in your body and how negative this reaction can be.  Dr. John Brimhall, a chiropractor, developed a technique to desensitize and get rid of allergies and sensitivities, called Allergy and Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique (ASERT), used by this Ontario chiropractor with amazing success.

The treatment of an allergy depends on how severe it is and what reactions it produces.  Some require preventive treatment while others can’t be predicted, but, in any case, there is valuable help available. You just have to find the right professional to look after you so that you can enjoy your life fully and feel 100% healthy.

Holistic methods of treating ailments and disease have been around since the beginning of medicine itself.  However, as people start to realize that maybe prescription drugs are not the end all, be all, miracle drugs, that we have been raised to believe, many people are turning their focus back to natural, holistic treatments.  Holistic medicine is a natural, alternative type of medicine that is based on the theory that any ailment needs to be treated not only physically, but spiritually and mentally as well.  This type of treatment works to treat the root causes of illnesses, not necessarily the symptoms of illnesses.  And one method of treatment that has found great popularity in recent years is Magnetic Field Therapy.

Magnetic Field Therapy may sound like something out of science fiction, but it’s actually been around for thousands of years.  It was even said to have been used by Cleopatra, who wore magnetic bracelets, as well as necklaces, which were said to have miraculous healing powers.  Western doctors started treating patients using Magnetic Field Therapy in the early 1800’s with varied success.  This treatment was almost totally forgotten, until it saw a recent boom in the early 1990’s.  Since then this method of therapy has flourished into a new, over 100 million dollar industry.  This method of treatment has seen a huge gain in popularity all over the world, including China, France, Japan, India, and the United States.  But what is Magnetic Field Therapy?

Magnetic therapy is thought to work by manipulating energy streams that naturally run through the body, helping to align these energy streams with electromagnetic fields found in the body.  Magnetic field therapy involves the usage of electromagnetic materials, such as magnets or magnetic bracelets, to treat illnesses, and to restore proper health and balance to the body.  Because the human body, as well as the earth, naturally produces electromagnetic energy, practitioners believe that the proper balance of these two fields can lead to total body wellness.  People who have undergone magnetic therapy have noticed improvement in various conditions such as arthritis, migraine headaches, depression, strained muscles and ligaments, and pain relief.

Magnetic field therapy is 100 % safe, and a natural, alternative method of treatment for various, common illnesses.  Magnetic therapy works to restore imbalances in the body, caused by stress, emotional issues, or injury.  Magnetic therapy gives your body a chance to heal itself, much in the same way acupuncture is used, just without the needles.   If you’re experiencing chronic pain, or chronic symptoms of health problems, that won’t seem to go away, you might want to give magnetic field therapy a try.  You should consult your local Ontario wellness physician before beginning any new treatment.

Happiness is easily achieved once you find the right balance between your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional selves.  As Thomas Merton said: “Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony”.  Nevertheless, intensity should never be underestimated, as it may be of help from time to time.

For some, achieving balance in their lives may seem a bit difficult, especially if they are very busy individuals with little or no time for themselves… or so they think.  What these people need to understand is that by giving priority to their wellbeing they are contributing greatly to the world around them, as a balanced world is formed by balanced individuals, and only then, can true happiness be experienced.  Good always starts with oneself; be good to yourself and this good will be passed along to others, eventually healing the world.

If you or someone you love are having trouble balancing every aspect of life, follow or show them these important tips, and discover how easy it is to start enjoying a good life today.

To achieve physical balance:

1.    Exercise regularly.  There are many modalities of exercise to fit almost any need or preference.  Choose one that inspires you and stick to it, find ways to enhance it, and show your body how much you care. Keep it aligned and visit an Ontario wellness center regularly.

2.    Get a good night’s sleep.  A healthy individual sleeps at least eight hours per night.

3.    Eat healthy and balanced foods.  Combine what you eat with the type of exercise you are doing; eat more natural foods and fewer packed products, increase the consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and water.

4.    Take time to relax and think positive thoughts.  Enjoy the time you spend doing “nothing”, just thinking about what your day was like, what you loved about it and what you didn’t enjoy.

5.    Get a hobby and spend time at it.  It is great when we take time to do what we love.

6.    Smile all the time.  No matter what the situation, there’s always a chance to smile; it just depends on how you decide to view things.

To achieve mental balance:

1.    Plan your day through goals, but learn to be flexible and realistic.

2.    Write everything in a positive way; keep negatives away.  “I am happy” works much better than “I am not sad”.

3.    Release yourself from obsessions, as you are not balanced when you are dependent on something to be happy.  Happiness comes from inside, and a truly happy person is happy in any circumstance.

4.    Go out and act in order to develop your talents.  Trial and error is the easiest, most fun way to learn.

5.    Keep a journal and write about everything you care about.

6.    Read quality material; it could be poetry, about nature or even news, just make it worthwhile.

7.    Define achievable goals; otherwise, you will never believe you can do it.  It doesn’t matter if you start small, to start is what’s important, and to start building trust in yourself to go higher every day.

To achieve spiritual balance:

1.    Discover your kind of prayer.  It could be through yoga, dancing, or the common praying at church, just make sure you connect with it, understand it and live it.

2.    Live in the now, it is the only place where your actions will be fruitful.

3.    Spend time with nature.  Take daily walks or weekend trips, but make sure you connect with the greatness of nature.

4.    If you are religious, study the Bible, Koran, or any text that confirms your beliefs; the same if you are a spiritual being, find what best suits your heart and learn from it.

To achieve emotional balance:

1.    Take care of others.  Be good and care for other people, no matter who they are.

2.    Be kind and helpful to others, and mind your own business.

3.    Listen to what others have to say.  They may not think like you, but there is value in everyone’s opinions.

4.    Find the common good in everything.  Always strive for the win-win result.  Remember that everyone deserves to win and that it is only when everyone wins, that real good is achieved.
